About The Event

Peter Sichel completed five operational tours in Dhofar with the SAS in the early 1970s before being commissioned in the Sultan of Oman’s Army.  He served in Firqat Force until the end of the insurgency, when he transferred to the Civil Aid Department with particular responsibility for the development of the jebel and distribution of civil aid.

During this time he carried out the first ever demographic survey of the jebel, together with the tribal structure, now held by the Middle East Centre at St Antony’s College, Oxford.  The unique photographs he took in the ‘70s provide a fascinating insight into an age long past, of which he has an intimate knowledge, and form the basis for his talk.

This event is presented in partnership with the British Omani Society (BOS).

This is a free members event, please book in advance, either by clicking 'Register Now' or via the BOS website

Drinks and networking from 5.30pm. The talk will begin at 6.00pm.
