Sadly we must pass on the news of the death of Richard John on Thursday 25th of July at his home in Wales. Richard had been unwell for several years but had always maintained his open and sunny personality.
Richard was a distinguished and much loved officer in the Sultan of Oman's Armed Forces for many years. After an early military career in the Royal Scots Greys (serving with Patrick Brook and others) he joined SAF in the late 1960s. He was badly wounded in action in May 1968 serving with the Muscat Regiment and endured a particularly arduous and lengthy casualty evacuation. In June 1971 he became 2ic Jebel Regiment as the newly created regiment was formed. He then became CO of Oman Gendarmerie before assuming the role of Joint Services Welfare Officer in 1975.
Our thoughts are with Richard’s nephew Caspar and nieces, Alexandra, Sandra and Caroline, and cousins, Martin, Ros and Ian.
