Air Vice Marshal Sir Erik Bennett KBE, CV, CVO

Sir Erik Bennett died in the Armed Forces Hospital in Oman on Friday 28th January 2022 at the age of 93.


Erik Bennett assumed command of the Sultan of Oman's Air Force in 1974 and remained in this post until his retirement in 1990. Following his retirement he remained in Oman and became a senior adviser to HM Sultan Qaboos. Reports of his activity as an adviser continued until about 2019.


He was knighted by HM the Queen in 1990 and was awarded the insignia of a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order during a royal visit to Oman by HM the Queen in November 2010.


His funeral service was held in Aghaboe, County Loais, Eire on 10th February 2022. News of any planned memorial service will be published on the site once known.
