Lt Col Patrick Brook MBE WKhM(G) WKhM

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Patrick Brook on Wednesday 1st July 2026. Patrick sadly passed away following a road traffic accident whilst he was cycling near his home in Devon.

Patrick contributed enormously to SAF and the Sultanate of Oman both through his military service and subsequently through his involvement in the SAF Association. His first tour in Oman was from 1968 to 1970 when he was seconded to the Muscat Regiment. He then returned in 1973 and commanded the Armoured Car Squadron until 1975. In January 1975 during Operation Dharab, a major operation against the enemy forces at Shershitti in the west of Dhofar, Patrick assumed command of the Jebel Regiment when the previous commanding officer was relieved of his command by the Brigade Commander. "To suddenly take over a battalion, anywhere at any time, is always tricky but to do it in the middle of an operation that was already going awry was a formidable challenge. Nonetheless Patrick soon got a grip and gave his orders for the operation to continue the next day." (Stewart Wilson - Dhofar Voices)

Patrick's final posting in Oman was as Commander of the newly formed Sultan of Oman's Armoured Regiment from 1980 to 1982.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Rosie, and his surviving daughter, Daisy.

Funeral Arrangements

The funeral will be held at the Church of St Mary, West Worlington, EX17 4TT (see map) at 14:30 on Wednesday 12th August. Please note that there is a similarly named church in East Worlington but the ceremony will be in West Worlington. Those attending will be received by Rosie at home after the service at Rull Farmhouse, East Worlington, EX17 4TG.
